On February 12, 1985, Maciej Berbeka and Maciej Pawlikowski made the first winter ascent of Cho Oyu (8,188 m) via a new route, by the south-eastern pillar. On February 15, Jerzy Kukuczka and Andrzej Zygmunt Heinrich also reached the summit.
